Family's Introduction to Au Pair
Job Description
My personal care assistant would have to help me around the house and garden, drive me places, attend appointments with me sometimes, help me when I become unwell, and sometimes spend time together watching a film or walking.
You must be a calm person and able to deal with crises without panicking - but a sense of humour is also essential. Although my health problems can be dramatic, they are intermittent, and not life-threatening - I just need some help to recover. You must be completely honest and trustworthy. You must be self-motivated and happy in your own company. You must be willing to be flexible about what hours you work, and entertain yourself when there is nothing to do. You will be very well paid. It is best if you enjoy nature and hiking, be happy with a sweet little dog, and also if you enjoy art galleries.
The health condition impacts me intermittently, and when it does I need a lot of help. Some days I cannot get up, and need help, other days I am up and around and active and then become unwell suddenly. Some days I am ok. Often I need help to prevent me becoming unwell.
But at other times I am active, and am enthusiastic about life despite my health problems. I love hiking so you must be fit to do this job. There is a huge contrast in my life between me 'well' and me when my health problem comes on. You need to be ready and able to help me quickly. However, you do not need any medical training.
I need someone willing to help, but not bossy and not someone who wants to take over in a pushy way. This would not work.
You will live independently in a beautiful modern annex in my garden, and you will a lot of the time you are on-call, but not actively working. So being able to entertain yourself is important. We live in beautiful countryside in the north of England near Scotland - so loving nature will help.
I am a writer, and continue to work when I can. I am also a keen artist and maker of all sorts of things.
