Hello, we are looking for a full-time, live-in, long-term professional elder caretaker who is caring, understanding and calm. Our loved one who is in need of care is only 61 years of age; however, suffers from several health issues. She was injured at work years ago by a patient who broke her back and has had 4 back surgeries since. She lives in constant pain but manages well. Last year she was in sepsis shock and hospitalized for almost 3 months. She is recovering from this - but, if you know about sepsis .... there are lasting symptoms. Hopefully, those will continue to diminish.
While she can walk with the aid of a walker, clean and dress herself - she cannot cook or clean her residence/clothes. So preparing meals and housework will be a part of this position. She is on a strict diet (pre-diabetic and heart) and her menu has been carefully formulated. We are very creative preparing her meals as most people would become bored eating her limited menu every day. She was a smoker and often asks for a cigarette. You must always say no. You cannot smoke - not in the house, out of the house - not at all. She has gag reflex - so hair must not be left in the bathroom or on the floor.
It would be helpful if you have a driver's license.
You must speak english as that is the only language she speaks.
We live less than a km from her and will support you both when needed. At present we live at the sea near Lucca (Toscana) and we all will be moving to our farm closer to Lucca within a year.
There are good days and bad for our loved one. She has a hard time with her memory right now (sepsis) and dealing with the fact her life changed dramatically overnight. At times she gets depressed. The last person we had with her was a depressed person and did not help the situation at all. So you need to be upbeat, positive, encouraging and cheerful.
We are offering a regular contract which will be discussed once we have talked and have mutual interest.
