Hey future host family,

My name is Liyema and I can’t wait to embark on this new and exciting journey of becoming your potential Au pair! I have a massive passion for working with children. I have cared for kids ranging from the ages of 2-11 years old.
As part of my childcare duties, I would wash, play and take care of the babies and toddlers, and I would help the older kids with their homework, vocabulary and make them food. I would also take them on walks and attend their extracurricular activities/shows, as a token of my support.

I took music for 5 years in high school and I have grade 1 knowledge on the piano. I also have grade 6 knowledge on the trombone. I played trombone in my school's jazz band for 3 years. My music knowledge could serve kids who has an interest in learning about music or playing instruments at school or as a hobby. I also give music lessons about 4 times per term for 2 children age 17 & 16.

I believe I would make an excellent Au pair, as I am calm, patient and understanding person. I am able to attend to children’s needs and enjoy both the good and the more challenging days, when it comes to working with children. I also love taking interest in kids' hobbies and giving them that support to keep pursuing that hobby, such as attending their recitals, sport games and plays.

My family is very musical which was really the foundation that led to me playing music years later. It definitely gave me a boost in understanding rhythmic patterns at an early age. I take a big interest in jazz. My love of jazz is what led me to play trombone and audition for my school's jazz band. The band is where I truly felt at home, as each band member became family. My best friend is my grandmother whom I love dearly.

I want to become an au pair because I love kids and want to broaden my knowledge when it comes to working with them. I also want to travel and experience different cultures and people. Kids are so pure and curious, which is one of the many reasons why I love caring for them. I would love to be part of their childhood memories, by making a difference in their lives on a daily basis (no matter how small it might seem.) For me, it’s important for them to see that they have my support as a friend, sister and an extension of their family because having busy parents can get lonely/challenging. I hope to also take some time away from the parents when it comes to assisting in the household, in order for them to have more time with the children. The most interesting thing I've learned from kids is patience as well as reading and decoding funny doodles that they enjoy drawing.

I am prepared and I am well aware of the fact that being like a big sister for your children comes along with responsibilities and that it will not always just be play and fun. It will be hard work and dedication, which is something I am more than happy to offer to your family. For the past year, I have been taking a gap year and getting a bit of a breather from school.
I hope we can develop a good relationship between parent and au pair, a good living situation and an atmosphere full of love. I am excited to have an eventful year with you and your family and I am so very excited to meet you.
