This will be a live-in position in Portugal--we are moving there in a few months as soon as we get the visas and settle real estate here in United States. I will find a nice house and you will have your own room and privacy. Candidate must speak English as my father cannot understand other languages, and Portuguese to interact with local vendors and medical personnel. Candidate must be in Portugal or EU, and have both languages indicated.
My father will soon be 98. He is physically frail but still mentally alert. He spends most of the day sitting in his lift chair watching tv, reading, or napping. There are occasional times that he can't express himself easily, when he can't find the word he wants, especially when sleepy. There are some times when he mis-remembers past occurrences and mixes up dates, but he is/was super intelligent.
Administer daily medications. Ensure that my father has assistance if he wants to move from one chair to another. Assist him walking to dining table so he doesn't fall. Encourage light chair exercise daily to maintain circulation. Do his laundry (it's very minimal, maybe 2 or 3 small loads a week.) Grocery shopping, cook and serve simple, fresh healthy meals to his preference, including clean up dishes and general light housework/keeping things tidy. Make sure he is showered 2 to 3 times per week; this takes a certain amount of physical strength and knowledge of how to do transfers properly. He is quite thin now and doesn't weigh much. Change diapers, assist with toileting (he is catheterized, which will be taken care of by a visiting nurse, but you will need to empty the bag several times a day).
Be kind and respectful, he is a proud man and it's hard to be this old. Okay to occasionally watch movie on tv with him, or relax and have a conversation, read to him, or take him for a short walk in his wheelchair if you ever feel like it. I want you to feel happy with us and enjoy your life, too. I will be there most of the time but really need your help as my energy level is no longer sufficient to handle all his requirements. PLEASE NOTE: I have several elderly cats who will be living in the house who I will continue to care for, so no one with cat allergies or who fears or dislikes cats. They sleep most of the time.
