| Dear potential family, I am an eternal optimist, about as extroverted as they come, and full of life! I’m looking for a family with a positive attitude, and children that can keep up with my energy level and are ready to have a little fun.
I’m a semi-recent college graduate currently working and living in the Detroit, Michigan suburbs. I love to stay busy, so I’ve always been very involved in school and sports, and have had a job since I was 14. Throughout high school and college summers, I worked as a nanny for a three child household. Since 2001 I have worked at a Chrysler Dealership and have moved up from customer greeter, to internet sales assistant, to assistant finance manager and I am currently working as a leasing manager. As a second job I work at a restaurant as the banquet supervisor, and worked as a server in college. While attending Western Michigan University, I studied Psychology and Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. My goal was to become a Speech Pathologist, but unfortunately I graduated right in the middle of my generation’s Great Depression in the city with the highest unemployment rate in the United States. Financially, it just wasn’t an option. Although I do not have a Bachelors degree in Education, I do have a significant amount of experience. Besides working as a nanny, as a speech pathology student I worked in a clinical setting with various children who had reading and language impairments. Many of the techniques taught in the clinic could be used to teach all disciplines. The time in the clinic also gave me experience with students with multiple ranges of cognitive disabilities, which taught me how to teach in a way that is more creative and adaptive. I also worked with one student exclusively over a summer teaching him everything from basic math skills to state capitols. In college I became a Nationally Certified Peer Educator through the Student Health Center. I participated in this organization for three years and gave countless presentations about health related topics. I understand how important your child's education is, and what a challenge it can be, and I feel my teaching background would be a great asset in your home.
In my free time I enjoy being active and outside. I’m an avid runner and just participated in the Detroit Marathon. In the winter I love to snowboard, and was on Western Michigan’s Collegiate Snowboard Team. I also enjoy playing tennis and golf, spending weekends up north camping and hiking, and playing sports with my four nephews.
My family is a huge part of my life, and being so far away from them was my only concern when I decided to pursue being an AuPair. I don't expect to be gone forever though, so I'm going to use this opportunity to try to motivate my nephews to be more aware of the world outside the US. I believe my hard working positive attitude, my experience, and my realistic understanding of the challenges being part of a family can be, makes this opportunity a good fit for me and my goals. I’m ready to experience something new and different and be challenged.
Thank you.
Kristyn
