Au Pair's Message to Families

Dear Family, thank you so much for considering my profile. I am a German 27 year old female seeking employment as an Au Pair/Nanny. I am a responsible, decent, caring, intelligent, fun, friendly, honest, diligent, neat and open-minded girl. I speak German (native), English (fluent), French (basic) and Italian (basic). And the moment I am working as an Au Pair girl in Rome, Italy. I have experience in caring for children. When I was 12 years old, I started to babysit regularly which I have always enjoyed a lot. Mostly I was taking care of the kids of my violin teachers. Their kids were between 1 and 11 years old. This helped me to take responsibility for kids at a very early stage and to be a good example for them. I finished my studies in December, 2008, I have a teaching degree for secondary schools in German and Arts. While I was studying at university I was able to make a lot of experiences in childcare during my internships at different schools. These internships gave me the opportunity to advance my skills. For about 2 years now I am working as a mentor who assists kids with their homework. I have a group of 5-10 students at the age of 10 to 13. I really enjoy this job. My main tasks are to ensure that the kids are quiet so that they can concentrate on their tasks, to help them when they have questions and to prepare them for the next school days when I review with them what they discussed in class. The rest of the time we use to chat and to play. I also use the time I spend with them trying to find out what they think and how they feel or what their concerns are. They trust me und thus they share their problems with me, which makes me proud. Together we always find a solution. I like listening to what they have to say and I can put myself in the position of kids and teenagers. As a mentor I learned that the most important thing for kids ist to be fair. At the age of 7 I began playing the violin and throughout the years I played in three orchestras. Also, I always loved to draw and paint and thus it was obvious that I would be stuying arts. My paintings were already presented in some exhibits and right now my paintings are part of a gallery which I am very proud of. Besides music and arts I have always loved doing sports, especially ball games. I used to be in a basketball and handball association, but I like volleyball as well. Two years ago I started playing tennis, but unfortunately I did not have much time for it during my exams. In the winter I go downhill skiing as well, I have started when I was 4 years old. Besides arts, music and sports I love to travel and I love to care for pets, especially dogs. But unfortunately I am allergic to cats.
