Dear future host family,

Hi! My name is Amy and I’m really happy to write this letter and tell you a little more about myself.

I’m 22 years old and I was born in the big, beautiful and interesting city of Bogota, Colombia. I grew up in a six-people family: my dad Sady, my stepmom Paula, my three younger siblings Sofi, Max and Sam, and our dog Candy. I’ve always been the oldest daughter, which I enjoy because I have such a protective instinct when it comes to my siblings. My family is really wonderful, filled with love and they have always supported me in this process of becoming an Au Pair.

I also enjoy meeting new people in different situations. I am a very outgoing person and since I was in school I have enjoyed learning new things. When I was in high school I excelled as a leader, taking part in different projects for my favorite subjects: History, Arts and Literature, I even received a medal for this leadership on my graduation. That was one of the happiest days of my life since my family was with me and they made it really memorable. I hope I will be able to show you pictures of this day in the near future.

I have gone through different situations that have made me grow up and mature, and through them I have learned that even though life can be difficult and there may be hardships along the way, there are always positive things that make everything worth it in the end. There are people who are willing to give their best and I try to be one of them everyday.

I have always considered myself to be someone independent and ever since I was a teenager I have helped at home with different chores. I enjoy cooking and I think I am really good at it. I always keep my living and working spaces clean and tidy since I consider cleanliness influences my mood and affects the harmony in which people live when they are together.

My hobbies mainly include going on walks, swimming, drawing, reading, listening to music, practicing to be a barista, and watching movies and series. I have been a Disney fan since I was little. I also love everything related to art and literature, especially the horror and suspense genres. On my free time I go to the gym and hang out with my friends, I have had the same group of friends since I was in high school I love them deeply and they are some of the most fun and trustworthy people I know, when we are together we usually go to different places in Bogota, but lately we have been playing a lot of Just Dance and participating in competitions of this game.
My main motivation to join the Au Pair program is that I am really passionate about children because in them I see the opportunity to love and help another human become the best possible version of themselves, all while learning a lot from them. I also love to travel and the United States is a country that has always called my attention. I am interested in learning more about their culture, history and people. I also enjoy learning new languages, I already know some German and I definitely want to improve my English.

All of my life I have been surrounded by children: ever since I was little I would look after my younger siblings and assist in their upbringing, then when I was older and my younger nieces and nephews were born I fell in love with them and realized I loved children and looking after them. The first time I looked after a child completely was in 2019 with a five year old little boy named Gael and then I spent a year with Margarita who was only two months old when I started taking care of her. These children are really special to me and have a place in my heart.

It is thanks to these experiences and the ones that followed after them that I discovered I am someone responsible and who takes seriously the role of looking after a child. It was because of this that I decided to start the process of becoming an Au Pair: I trained to be an excellent nanny, I got my driver’s license, learned how to handle different emergencies, improved my cooking and learned how to make delicious and nutritious meals, I also improved my patience and learned different ways to stimulate and teach children. Not only that but looking after children helped me revive my inner child and I became a more creative person while also finding one of my passions.

Finally I hope we can meet each other and talk soon, I am really excited about this opportunity and I hope we can share this experience in the best way possible. I wish to learn everything that is possible from you, your culture and your language, and I hope this helps me grow as a person. I would love to become part of your family and to build a trusting and peaceful relationship, as well as to be able to have fun with you.
